Dear SRF Iraq Scholars,

The Scholar Rescue Fund (SRF) recognizes the benefits to scholars of attending and presenting research at an academic conference. It is a great opportunity to meet other established researchers and professors in your academic field or discipline. Conference participation allows scholars to gain new perspectives on key issues, reach out to colleagues and enlarge one’s scientific network. In addition, participation at a conference enhances careers through the international acknowledgement of one’s research.

Understanding these benefits, the Iraq Scholar Rescue Project is pleased to provide a fully-funded opportunity for Iraqi scholar-grantees to attend up to one conference during the fellowship period.

Supplemental funds to support conference attendance are available to all Iraqi scholar-grantees on a one-time basis. To be eligible for funding, you must have an invitation to present a paper or research project at the conference you wish to attend.  To apply for supplemental funding, please submit the following form and requested documentation:

  • A copy of the formal invitation you received to present a paper or science poster at the conference.
  • A web page printout or electronic receipts for conference related costs, such as registration, hotel, and transportation.

Applications are accepted at any time throughout the year and should be submitted to the Iraq Scholar Rescue Project staff by email (preferred), fax or mail. (Full contact information is listed at the end of the page.)  Applications which meet the eligibility criteria will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Please remember that according to the terms of your award, you are requested to acknowledge the support of the Institute of International Education (IIE) and/or the IIE Scholar Rescue Fund (SRF) in any academic publications prepared or published for the conference, and where possible, to forward copies of such publications to the Iraq Scholar Rescue Project.

After attending the conference, you will be expected to provide a formal summary of your activities and involvement in the conference.
