IIE-SRF is pleased to share application information for our partners at PAUSE (Programme national d’aide à l’Accueil en Urgence des Scientifiques en Exil), a French national program that supports Ph.D. candidates, post-doc researchers, and displaced researchers and scientists seeking to work in safety. The program allocates incentive funding to public higher education and research establishments that can host scientist at their institutions in France. On July 12-13, AAAS will convene a symposium on higher education and human rights at their headquarters. Speakers, including IIE-SRF fellow Mustafa Bahran of Yemen, will address issues many academic institutions are now tackling: protecting scientific and academic freedom on globally connected campuses. The Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA) and the Permanent Missions of Argentina, Norway, and Qatar to the United Nations launched “Education under Attack 2018: A Global Study of Attacks on Schools and Universities and their Students and Staff, 2013-2017″ on May 10, 2018 at IIE’s NYC headquarters. The report shows that attacks on education have worsened in the last five years, becoming more widespread and increasing in some countries. In addition to a panel of high level speakers, the event included a presentation of the findings from Education under Attack 2018 as well as GCPEA’s recent research on the impact of attacks on education on girls and women in Nigeria.
